Numerical Studies of Batch and Inline High Shear Melt Conditioning Technology Using Different Rotors

When casting aluminum alloy billets, high shear melt conditioning (HSMC) technology refines the resulting grain size, reduces number of defects, and improves mechanical properties without need to add polluting expensive chemical refiners. These resultant improvements spring from rates that develop in rotor–stator gap stator holes facing leading edge rotor. Despite growing literature on mixing, it is unclear how different parameters affect performance treatment. To upscale this apply processes involve large volumes, an understanding design crucial.
